Peer Evaluation

What do you think is the strongest part of the
blog? This could be a certain post, the writing style, the graphic design, the
use of alternative media, the images, etc. What makes this element so strong?
I think that a good part of the blog overall was the diary
entry that was put in on Chistmas day, I think there was one small paragraph in
it that was very clever in a very simple way:
I should be greatful, I got so many presents under the tree
waiting to be opened. I just cant face the thought of going downstairs. I'm a
mess.

Is there a part of the blog you find confusing?
A part that doesn’t seem to quite match the rest or the character for which it
was designed? A link for which you don’t understand the connection? Can you
give some suggestions for how to improve that part?
I was a little confused about the
links to different research themes, it might have just been because I haven’t
done that yet….But I just wasn’t sure what the link to a song by Jack Johnson
was. I was probably just being blind though.

After reading the blog, what would you like to
know more about? Is there a post that leaves you with questions? Write down at
least two questions to help your partner further develop this blog.
I think if it isn’t to much work
that it would be really good to do like a diary entry a few months after Christmas
about how lily is doing, her parents etc… her new school, new house and so on.

grammatical issues? Please note down anything.
There were a few spelling
mistakes but otherwise it was all good.

Warming up & hot seating 3/10/13
Voice and physicality warm up:
We started off the session with rolling our hips in different directions. This helped us warm up and loosen our bodies. We then went on to doing an exercise where we learnt against a wall saying a line in our script in different ways to get in touch with our character and discover the way we could say that line effectively that will suit the role and the time of the play. We spoke from the head (Direct voice with no sub text), heart (Open, sensitive, soft voice), guts (Going into battle, deep down, bad news reaction voice), hips (Soft, central, relaxed) groin (Energy from the floor, balanced on the ground and sturdy), this was effective because we were able to see the different ways in which we say things that we mean in an effective way. We carried on by doing mouth and voice warm ups to get ready for the session and to be alert in the session.
We then went on to do our character status walking. This is what we do to see what our character is like and how they are seen by people. This exercise helped me realise the truth about my character and her feelings and emotions at my point of the play.
Hot seating:
The next activity was hot seating each character in order of the play. It was useful seeing other peoples thought process because we were able to build up a good background story of the entire play from start to finish and from different perspectives. It was also useful to be my own character because I was able to improvise effectively and speak about my characters thoughts at this part of the play (first starting school and initial thoughts on other characters).
I was asked questions such as:
1. How are you?
2. What are you feeling about the school?
3. What is your opinion on Nicholas, Cissy, Tanya, Bennett?
4. What is your family background like?
Each question entitled me to be quite closed about my emotions as I was new to the school and I didn't want to show that I was soft and then be walked all over or stubborn where people don't want to know me. My character was quite nervous however was in a situation where it was vital to keep neutral with everyone as best as she could. I was able to develop my character further by listening to other people be my character at different points of the play. The task it's self wasn't particularly difficult but it was more useful to see what peoples reactions were to the questions that were asked and what and how they answered.
We then went on to do 'funky chicken' to shake us off and still be alert after the hot seating activity.

Warm up 26/09/13
On Thursdays lesson we did various activities including:
Voice Warms Ups which controlled out breathing and voice and how we use them in different scenarios.
Sirening (Low pitch and high pitch)
Breathing (Controlling different ways we breath)
We also did tongue twisters to warm up our lips, tongue and mouths.We used tongue twisters such as:
"The tip of the teeth and the lips"
"Peter picked a peck of pickled peppers"

Physical Warm Ups helped us loosen up and stretch out to help us get into neutral so that we are alert and ready to act in any role. Physical warm ups included:
Cat stretch
Rolling down the spine (We also included sounds such as "s, z, sh, j, v, mm and ah"
Pull and Pressing Exercise (which helped us gain trust with one another and taught us how much we depend on each others strength and energy)
Shoulder Rolls
Another warm up we did was facial warm ups which helped with facial expressions and just general warming up. These included:
Raisin face and pumpkin face
Large imaginary chewing gum
We did an emotional state exercise where we showed our levels of confidence on a scale on 1-10. 1 being so timid and not being able to face the world at all and being at a point of suicidal. To show this I sat on the floor and hid my face and started shaking to show the fright of being exposed to the real world. 10 was being extremely confident and so 'out there' that we turn our noses up to people etc. We showed that we had all this confidence and no matter what we are always correct in any situation and we are the best in the world, and better than everybody else. This exercise helped us explore our characters and other characters and how we display them. This showed different energy levels and the emotional state in which our characters are in.

Warming up in Theatre
Getting into Neutral
We started off our warm up by walking around the room in different paces so that we relax our bodies and show that we have spacial awareness. We then moved onto doing leg swings which relaxed our leg muscles and warmed us up. We looked straight ahead and kept our bodies in neutral to make us more comfortable before acting.
We then swung our arms around at different paces to have the same outcome that the leg swings gave us. We then caused friction between our hands which made warmth and then we warmed up and massaged our faces so that we were relaxed and ready to get into a neutral state and prepared to act any role.
We laid on the floor with our eyes open and imagined a small feather on our lips and did exercises that controlled our breathing and the amount of breaths we take whilst doing different noises which could use our voice box or just breath.
We then had our eyes closed and imagined a small movement our characters will make in the play and then we imagined how we would perform it. We then imagined other thoughts about our characters which helped us explore ways in which our character would act and things that can some up their past and future. This helped us in the next activity as we wrote about our characters in the first person and had to imagine things that were not necessarily obvious in the script. This helped us make a profile of our characters and this would also help us discover ways in which we can act this.

Warm up 19/09/13
We started off by getting our bodies into neutral, by this we walked around the room and imagined a hot bowl of oil lying on our hips and we had to try our hardest to not make the oil move this was to help us concentrate.
We then did an exercise where we shook out legs and arms eight times, then four times, twice and then once whilst counting to practise our breathing. At the end of this exercise we jumped and shouted funky chicken. The idea of this was to also warm up our bodies and vocal skills.
We did another imagination task where we laid on the floor and blew a feather up in the air with different types of breath and sounds to focus on our breathing and the strengths that we use.
